ADT Home Security Battery

It is vital that good batteries are installed in your home security system and do not ignore low battery warnings. Replace the battery immediately. You will only have half a security system is your batteries are flat. If you have a power outage your burglar alarm system WILL NOT function. Which is as good as not having a burglar alarm system at all.

A question that is regularly asked is how do I change the batteries in my ADT home security system?

Firstly, locate the battery. It will be in your main control panel unit. Take the cover off your unit being very careful not to lose the screws. Locate the battery. This will be identified by two wires that are connected to it. One is for the positive supply and one for the negative supply – these are usually red for positive and black for negative. Remove the wires from the battery and remove the fastener for the battery. Take the battery out of the control panel.

Take the battery to your local hardware or DIY store and purchase the exact same battery. This is very important. Check the voltage and amperage and be sure they are exactly the same as your original battery.

When you return home, install and fasten the new battery into your control panel. Reconnect the wires and be sure the red wire goes on to the positive terminal and the black wire goes on to the negative terminal. Finally replace the control panel cover.

If you have a wireless burglar alarm system then you will need to periodically change the battery in each wireless sensor too. To do this, unscrew the wireless device from your wall/door/ceiling. Pop open the cover and remove the battery. These are often AA cell type batteries which are extremely common so you will be able to purchase these almost anywhere.
